In 2009 the Open Championship returned to this area and Ayrshire once more saw the world’s best professional golfers flock to the legendry links of Turnberry to take on the greatest challenge in professional golf. Tom Watson, master of the craft, captured the world's attention and encouragement as he displayed skill and genius reminiscent of his play at Turnberry in 1977. However it was Stewart Cink, keeping his cool under pressure, that proved to be the worthy Open Champion on this occasion.
