Island Golf
The islands of Arran and Cumbrae offer the perfect location to master your golfing skills.
Cumbrae
Cumbrae is the smaller of the two islands, where Millport Golf Club can be found. It was founded in 1888 making it one of the oldest established courses on the Firth of Clyde. The course was designed by the legendry James Braid, an architect famous for creating some of the best courses in Scotland.Millport is a heathland course which plays like a links. Strong winds come off the coast and the 18 hole course commands one of the most dramatic vistas in Scottish golf. Panoramic views over the Firth include Ailsa Craig, the Isle of Bute, the Cowal Peninsula and Arran.
Arran
With seven courses in close proximity, the Isle of Arran is a golfer’s paradise. Known as “Scotland in Miniature” the island represents the Scottish landscape. It has mountains and lochs in the north, rolling hills and meadows in the south and all edged by a stunning coastline. This changing landscape presents multiple golfing challenges. Most courses are Heathland, but their position close to the coast creates all the challenging features connected with links golf. Brodick Course, located 10 mins walk from the ferry, has links and parkland holes. Shiskine is a links course in its truest form, 12 holes of tradition and charm make this a popular course among visiting and local golfers. With a distillery and brewery on the island there is plenty to keep you entertained between rounds? The relaxed nature of these courses combined with competitive prices make for a wonderful round of holiday golf. The challenge lies in keeping track of your score card when such beautiful views are to be found.
